Youth Ministry

The Archdiocese of San Francisco supports youth ministry programs that foster the catechesis, moral, and spiritual formation of young people in Middle School through High School.

Our Goals

Guided by the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision (1997), our ministry has three goals:

To empower young people (ages 13-17) to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today;

To draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community;

To foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

To accomplish these goals, we offer training, community, workshops, resources, retreats, and collaboration opportunities for Youth Ministry Leaders within the Archdiocese, as well as training, retreats, catechetical events, leadership opportunities for youth themselves.

Genuine love is demanding. But its beauty lies precisely in the demands it makes. Only those able to make demands on themselves in the name of love can then demand love from others.

15th Annual Simbang Gabi Commissioning Mass

7:31pm
Come join us as the Archdiocese sends us forth on a mission to be this light of Christ!

15th Annual Simbang Gabi Commissioning Mass
Friday, December 9, 2022, 7:30pm
Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption

Principal Celebrant: Father Dave M. Pettingill

Light Filipino Food Fare served immediately after the Mass.

About the Masss:

Each year, the Archdiocese holds a Commissioning Mass to herald the beginning of “Simbang Gabi Masses” widely celebrated in its various parishes throughout the Archdiocese of San Francisco during the Christmas season.  “Simbang Gabi” is a prominent centuries old Filipino Catholic faith practice with roots in farming and fishing communities dating back to the 1600’s.  This practice traditionally consists of attending a novena of pre-dawn, or night-time masses leading up to Christmas Eve.  Please double check the dates and times of Simbang Gabi masses that may be celebrated in your parish.

We encourage you to attend our Simbang Gabi Commissioning Mass, and to bring your own Filipino Christmas “Parol”, and your family “Cresche” (or Nativity scene) to receive a special blessing after the mass.

Pontifical Low Roráte Mass

The Roráte Mass is a votive Mass in honor of the Virgin Mary for the season of Advent, lit only by candles. The Mass takes its title, Roráte, from the first words of the Introit, which are from Isaiah 45:8:

“Roráte, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum, aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem.”

“Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Saviour.”

SF Turkey Drive at St. Emydius Church

9:00am – 12:00pm
This is the 11th annual SF Turkey Drive…let’s help feed the most affected community of San Francisco! See the results from the Thanksgiving SF Turkey Drive at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqz8S6E9hiI when we arrived at St. Anthony in the Tenderloin. And we are doing this again at the Christmas Drive on Dec 17.

Our goal is to PROVIDE MEALS WITH A SMILE to the diners at St. Anthony’s Dining Room. This kitchen is sometimes the last place for a meal when hunger strikes. St. Anthony serves not only over 2,600 meals daily, but they bring hope for a better future to those who don’t have much to live for.

On December 17, we will welcome hams, turkeys (preferable frozen) and/or boxes of fresh vegetables.
Online donations can be simply made from our website in November and December at www.SFTurkeyDrive.com
