Youth Ministry

The Archdiocese of San Francisco supports youth ministry programs that foster the catechesis, moral, and spiritual formation of young people in Middle School through High School.

Our Goals

Guided by the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision (1997), our ministry has three goals:

To empower young people (ages 13-17) to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today;

To draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community;

To foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

To accomplish these goals, we offer training, community, workshops, resources, retreats, and collaboration opportunities for Youth Ministry Leaders within the Archdiocese, as well as training, retreats, catechetical events, leadership opportunities for youth themselves.

Genuine love is demanding. But its beauty lies precisely in the demands it makes. Only those able to make demands on themselves in the name of love can then demand love from others.

In his role as primary teacher of the Church, Pope Francis has issued recently several important documents. Chief among them is Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home) and Fratelli Tutti (On Fraternity and Social Relationship). The talks in this short series will investigate some of the biblical grounding of the Holy Father’s thinking.

Laudato Si’
April 19 — Our attitude toward the rest of the natural world springs from our understanding of what it means to be a human being. (Gen 1:26-28; 3:5)
April 26 — At the very foundation of our creature hood, we are connected with all other Earth creatures (Gen 2:7, 9, 19, 22-23; 9:9-10; Hos 2:20)
May 3 — As Earth creatures, we are totally dependent on Earth, and in many ways, Earth is dependent on us (Hos 2:10-11; Exod 20:11 (Deut 5:15); Exod 23:10-11; Lev 25:1-4)

Fratelli Tutti
May 10 — “Who is my Neighbor?” (Luke 10:25-37)
May 17 — Differences should not separate us (Gal 3:28)
May 24 — “In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples” (Matt 28:19; Mark 16:15)

Centering Prayer and Oneness

3:00pm (05/22) – 12:00pm (05/28)
Cost: 800
Our contemplative practice opens up a new way of seeing and being, acknowledging our oneness with each other, with the world, and with God. As we consent to the Spirit, we consent to the help that is always being offered to us and to our world.

Our Centering Prayer is an important foundation in this, and yet it doesn’t end when we get up off the cushion. In all of the times of our day we can continue to offer ourselves to Sacred Unity. Throughout our activity, and in the evening and at night – we are continually a part of this Oneness.

Join us as we offer our beloved being up to God, sitting together in the quiet, moving throughout our day, and entering the evening and night in prayer together. This retreat is suitable for people with a long-time practice of Centering Prayer, and will also provide guidance for those relatively new to it. We are planning a spacious schedule blanketed in sacred silence so that you will have time to walk the beautiful Mercy grounds, and to do other deeply relaxing practices that we’ll talk about. Bring a journal and pen if you like. There is a lovely craft room at Mercy Center but bring additional art supplies if you prefer.
