Santo Cristo Society of San Mateo County holds Festa do Santo Cristo dos Milagres

Santo Cristo Society of San Mateo County held their annual Festa do Santo Cristo dos Milagres on May 13 and 14, the first since the pandemic.

The event is a Portuguese tradition honoring an image of Christ from the Convent of Vale de Cabaços on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. The festival in Portugal is one of the largest religious celebrations in the country and is held on the fifth week of Easter.

The annual Festa in South San Francisco marked the 110th anniversary of the celebration in San Mateo County and included music and the Rosary, followed by a procession on Sunday, May 14, from the Santo Cristo Society Hall to Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. Here, Fr. Vito Perrone celebrated Mass and participants had lunch and enjoyed traditional dances.  The Knights of Columbus Knights and Honor Guard also participated in the procession and festivities at Mater Dolorosa Church.
