Tips for the National Eucharistic Procession across the Golden Gate Bridge General Tips:

  • Wear comfortable, closed-toed, walking shoes.
  • Due to variations in the weather conditions on the bridge, wearing layers is recommended. Bring a jacket to wear as you walk across the bridge as it is very windy and may be cold.
  • Bring a water bottle and don’t forget to pack your sunscreen and a hat for sun protection.
  • If a medical or safety situation arises during the walk, please immediately notify one of our safety ambassadors identified with a reflective vest and they will be able to get assistance.
  • If along the route we encounter any protesters or demonstrations, please do not engage with them but continue walking. There will be safety and security personnel, as well as law enforcement, monitoring the situation.
  • No scooters, skates, or wagons are on the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • No amplified speakers or sound machines are permitted.
  • No banners, signs, statues, etc., are allowed on the bridge.
  • We will be entering the bridge on the east side in two-by-two fashion as the walkway is narrow.
  • Please stay on the right side of the walkway to allow room for those returning from the opposite direction.

Transportation and Returning to the Cathedral:

  • Please do not park in the East Crissy Field Parking Lot, including buses. There are public parking areas in other parts of the Presidio.
  • After the final blessing, there will be eight school buses for pilgrims that will make two trips back to the Cathedral from the end of the walk.
  • An alternative option would be to walk back across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Visitor Center to take public transportation back to the Cathedral or meet a ride share vehicle there.
  • Registered Chartered buses may meet passengers at the end of the walk at the H. Dana Bowers Rest Area & Vista Point.
  • Public parking is not allowed at the end of the walk at H. Dana Bowers Rest Area & Vista Point. Pilgrims are encouraged to use the shuttle bus transportation provided or ride share vehicles and public transportation which may be accessed at the south end of the Bridge.
