Our Lady of Loretto School rallies to restock food pantry

In a heartwarming show of community spirit and generosity, the students and staff of Our Lady of Loretto School rallied to restock the parish food pantry following a critical shortage. The Our Lady of Loretto Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which manages the church pantry, had reached an alarming point right before the holiday season.

“We were down to two jars of peanut butter and a few jars of pasta sauce,” offered Hank Ryan, President of the Conference, Hank Ryan. “The wonderful staff and students of Our Lady of Loretto School responded overwhelmingly, in true Christian fashion, with a deluge of donations. The pantry is now full to the rafters; just in time to meet the increasing demands for food from the poor of our parish.”

In response to the call for help, Our Lady of Loretto School organized a charity food drive on October 23rd, encouraging all students to bring in specific food items for the parish. This effort is part of the school’s monthly tradition of supporting a chosen charity, either through a $5.00 donation or a food contribution. The Student Council played a crucial role by collecting the donations, transporting them to the pantry, and assisting in restocking the shelves.

Ella Guehring, the Student Council President, shared her thoughts: “It was amazing to see our whole school come together to help those in need. It makes me proud to be part of such a caring community.”

Even the younger students were eager to share their excitement. One enthusiastic student, Olivia Lovi, said, “I loved bringing in food to help! It felt so good to know we were helping people who need it.”

The response from the Our Lady of Loretto School community transformed what could have been a crisis into a testament of faith and solidarity, ensuring that local families would have the food they need.
