San Francisco, Oct. 17, 2020 _ The Archdiocese of San Francisco has established an ad hoc advisory Committee for Racial Reconciliation and Justice. Its first task will be to organize listening sessions around the archdiocese.
With Coptic Christians facing ongoing persecution in Egypt, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone and Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Gerasimos have written a letter to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking her to bring HR 49 to the House floor for a vote. The non-binding resolution notes that even with some improvements in the status of Coptic Christians, they continue to face violence, and do not have equal rights and opportunities in the predominantly Muslim country. Coptic Christians are about 10 million strong and are the largest Christian community in the Middle East.
July 22, 2020 _ California's bishops are calling on Gov. Newsom to allow schools to open with in-person learning--for the good of the children. That makes sense! As of this week, the state's Department of Public Health reports ZERO deaths from COVID-19 in children 17 and under, even though the same chart shows 413,000 COVID-19 positive tests in the state.
