Into Gethsemane: Day three of the National Eucharistic Congress

Day three of the National eucharistic Congress was focused on conversion and healing.

The day began with Masses by Archbishop Broglio of the Military Archdiocese with the youth attendees and Washington, DC Cardinal Gregory in Luas Oil Stadium (video below).

Throughout the day, Congress attendees had the opportunity to listen to speakers in breakout sessions, such as Jason Evert’s talk below, pray in Eucharistic adoration at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, view an exhibit on the Shroud of Turin, and venerate relics of Blessed Carlos Acutis, St. Junipero Serra, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Juan Diego, and a piece of our Lady’s veil, among others.

Pilgrims from the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the Diocese of Oakland gathered at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in the afternoon for Mass concelebrated by Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone and Bishop Michael C. Barber.

The evening session was focused on healing and the repentance necessary to unify as the Body of Christ. Sister Josephine Garrett delivered a hopeful keynote that acknowledged our brokenness as humans and as a Church, pointing to Jesus as the Divine Physician who longs to meet us in that place of woundedness and make us new.

Sister Josephine reflected on the human desire to be filled vs. the struggle with hunger, reminding those present that the Eucharist is foretaste of Heaven, and that hungering for Heaven is natural, but we cannot fill that space in our hearts with other things.
