The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption is the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco, serving the Catholic faithful in the counties of Marin, San Mateo, and San Francisco. It is located in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. It is the center of Archbishop Cordileone's ministry in the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
The famous cathedral is recognized worldwide as a modern masterpiece of engineering and architecture. Architect Pietro Belluschi and engineer Luigi Nervi are credited with heading the planning and design of the cathedral building, which was completed in 1970.
