Senate Bill 360, which threatens the confidentiality of the confessional, has passed the state Senate and is now being considered in the state Assembly. The Assembly Public Safety Committee will hold a
public hearing on several bills, including SB 360, on July 9. The
eight-member committee consists of six Democrats and two Republicans. The
California Catholic Conference urges Catholics and all concerned citizens to attend the hearing and to make their concerns known.
The Archdiocese of San Francisco is able to charter buses for those who would like to attend, if interest is sufficient. A head count of passengers is needed urgently.
The plan is for three bus pick-up and drop-off sites, one in each county: St. Anne of the Sunset in San Francisco, Our Lady of the Angels in Burlingame, and in Marin County a location to-be-determined). Bus departure times would be 6:30 am; return times would be approximately 2:30 pm.
How to register for a bus ride: A bus sign-up sheet is
downloadable here. Anyone may fill out the form (each form has space for 9 persons to sign up). Scan the finished form into PDF format and e-mail it to
lifeanddignity@sfarch.org.
