“Marriage, Family, and the Virtue of Love”
Mary Caprio, MTS, CFCP, Associate Fellow, St. John Paul II Foundation
Am I loving my spouse well? What does true love look like? Love and marriage were given to us from the beginning as a “way” to the Father. Am I living this vocation well? How does the sacrament of marriage assist me to love in this way? This talk will explore the purpose and meaning of this particular and exceptional call to love.
“Marriage and Family: Created out of Love for Love”
John Hamlon, M.A., Author and Educator
St. John Paul II—in his exhortation Familiaris Consortio—spells out God’s plan for marriage and family, and issues a perennial challenge: “Family, become what you are.” Today that challenge rings out more clearly and insistently because the Catholic view of marriage and family is more critically needed than ever. What is that view? Why does John Paul II see marriage as a “primordial” sacrament? What is the family’s fundamental vocation? What “laws” drive spousal and familial love? Such questions and John Paul II’s answers are the grist for this talk.
Presenter John Hamlon earned his MA in theology from the University of San Francisco and did doctoral work in systematic theology at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. He was the associate director of the St. Ignatius Institute, University of San Francisco, from 1994 to 2001. Currently he conducts classes on John Paul II's Theology of the Body for parishes and groups within the Diocese of Sacramento. He regularly gives talks to engaged couples who are participating in the Diocesan Pre-Cana program.
"Standing Strong as Parents"
Ray Guarendi, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist and National Radio & TV Host
Parents today are having their confidence, peace of mind, and authority undercut by a number of widespread myths that have been pushed upon them by the experts, the media and almost everybody else. Victimized by these false notions, many parents are plagued by groundless worry, guilt and frustration. This presentation will foster self-confidence, peace of mind, and will put authority into your hands where it belongs.
